NSIBIET'S ARREST AND DETENTION

NSIBIET'S ARREST AND DETENTION A CLEAR ABUSE OF POWER BY UNCLE MO - FORMER COMMISSIONER

A former Commissioner for Agriculture in the state, Prof. Etok Ekanem has said that the arrest and detention of the Publisher of THE INK Newspaper, Mr. Nsibiet John is a clear abuse of power by the Deputy Governor, Moses Ekpo a.k.a Uncle Mo. He stated this in a Facebook page. Below is his post..

ON THE ARREST AND DETENTION OF NSIBIET JOHN BY THE POLICE
I have read several comments on the above trending subject matter. Reports indicate that Mr Nsibiet John, an Uyo-based Journalist, is being detained by the Police in Uyo, in connection with a Newspaper publication the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom Srate, Mr Moses Ekpo, considers offensive and libellous. As Akparawa Michael Bush indicated in his contribution, I have personally, not met Mr Moses Ekpo, the Deputy Governor before. Like Akparawa Michael Bush, I do not have the details of what the matter is between him ( the Deputy Governor) and Mr Nsibiet John. Indeed,

I do not even know the said Mr John himself, in person. I can therefore, not take a position on the current development for lack of necessary information. I am, however, worried about the reported arrest and detention of Mr Nsibiet John by the Police, allegedly, on the order of Mr Moses Ekpo, the Deputy Governor.

Irrespective of what it is that Mr John got published in the INK Newspaper against Mr Moses Ekpo, I consider his arrest and detention without trial, untidy and wrong. This does not speak well of the Deputy Governor, particularly considering his good and respectable age, his office and the fact that he himself is a respectable Veteran Media professional who has seen it all. As generally indicated in the numerous contributions I have read on this matter, there are lawful options for Mr Ekpo to seek redress if Mr John has offended and libelled him. Police arrest ( and detention) is not an option.

With due respect to him, I like to indicte to Mr Ekpo that this is a clear abuse of power. I therefore, join all well - meaning persons and organisations to appeal to Mr Moses Ekpo to cause the release of Mr Nsibiet John from the current unlawful detention without further delay. It is in the all- round personal interest of His Excellency, Mr Ekpo himself, to do so. I sincerely wish him well.
